Even if you don't store credit card details and process them yourself (recommended), you will still need to offer your customers security and peace of mind when they enter details such as their names, addresses and phone numbers.

JShop Server offers full SSL support. Short for Secure Sockets Layer (in case you were interested!), this is a powerful protocol developed to ensure security when transmitting private documents via the internet. It uses a cryptographic system to encrypt data and create a secure connection when transferring information from your customers' computer to your online store. In plain English, this means that when people visit your site, they'll see the reassuring little padlock icon in the bottom of their browsers. This gives them greater piece of mind, allowing them to buy from your store with confidence and assurance.

As with any site out there, you will need to buy this SSL digital security certificate separately - which I will then install on your site to make it secure. There are a multitude of companies offering SSL certificates, and while, if you look around enough, you may be able to make a small saving going with some unknown, distrusted brand, the company I'd seriously recommend is the internationally recognised and trusted Thawte. It's their business to ensure your site is as secure as it possibly can be, and for a very reasonable fee.

Thawte - It's a trust thing

Again, and to further uphold the philosophy of sjclarke.net - please feel free to do your own research; find out the best solution for you personally. Ask me for any advice along the way and I'll be happy to offer it. Buy the certificate yourself, thus getting the best deal and cutting out the middle man (me). Then hand it over to me and I'll install it, all as part of my service.
